Biodiversity Net Gain
Biodiversity Net Gain for Planning Proposals
Biodiversity Net Gain is a new duty imposed by central government on certain types of new development which came into force for major planning application proposals on 12th February 2024 and for most types of non-major proposals on 2nd April 2024. This means that major and certain types of minor development that require planning permission must show how they will deliver a 10% improvement in the amount or quality of natural habitat over the existing level on site, as part of their planning application.
