Gloucestershire Constabulary has contacted Mickleton Parish Council regarding hoverboards being used on roads in Mickleton.
Published: 22 September 2025
Gloucestershire Constabulary has informed us of the following:
Just in case you aren’t aware, hoverboards are two-wheeled devices with a balancing board. They have an electric motor in them and are propelled backwards and forwards by the rider altering their balance on the board.
The fact that they have an electric motor in them means that they can be classed as a motor vehicles and must not be used on public roads.
More information, courtesy of Gwent Police, is available here segway_and_hoverboards_-_the_law.pdf
If you or a family member own one of these machines that is fine, but please do not use it on the public highway or the pavement.
If people are found using these devices on the road or pavement, they can be seized by the police and you could be fined.
