Warwickshire planning update

Stratford on Avon District Council (SDC) and Warwick District Council have identified the Long Marston/Meon Vale area for a NEW TOWN of 10,000–12,000 homes (known as ‘site E1’).

A proposed relief road (the Southwest Relief Road, ‘SWRR’) is also proposed to pave the way for the new town.

This relief road could potentially open up future development along its length, and the impact to local communities could be significant. SDC has also highlighted Southeast Stratford for growth (Strategic Growth Site 19, ‘SG19’) with 3,000 – 4,000 new homes with associated traffic.

Implications for Mickleton

In recent submissions to Cotswold District Council, responding to a number of outline planning applications for Mickleton, the parish council has repeatedly identified two significant issues.

1. The roads to and through Mickleton are already congested. Any additional traffic will compound this problem unless serious investment is made to improve road safety and public transport.
2. Despite being labelled as a ‘Principal Settlement’, the available facilities and services in Mickleton are limited. Car journeys, sometimes lengthy, are required to access employment, supermarkets, healthcare, education, leisure and general shopping.

The potential developments towards Stratford could have an enormous impact on Mickleton’s current traffic issues.  It is also possible that the huge number of houses may bring benefit through provision of much needed infrastructure being available much closer to Mickleton that we have today.
