Councillor

Chris Cottam

Representative roles:

  • Climate working group
  • Litter pickers working group
  • Planning
  • Sports Club

Career: Chris spent 35 years in the IT industry. He started as a technical consultant and went on to manage a global business unit for a multi-billion-dollar company, before retiring in 2020. Throughout his career, he was fortunate to gain experience in sales, marketing, manufacturing and customer service. Chris also had the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, Asia and North America, including a four-year period living in Germany. During a ‘time out’ from corporate life Chris ran his own consultancy, providing growth advice to small businesses.

Local interests: Chris is a shareholder in the community vineyard and is looking forward to learning more about the village and the community. He is also a walker, and is keen to make sure footpaths are well signed and well maintained.

Hobbies: Having played football and rugby into his forties, Chris is now limited to membership of a local golf club. He is also an armchair Liverpool supporter, and enjoys watching all kinds of sport. He tries to keep the weight off by visiting the gym twice a week, and is looking forward to exploring all the local footpaths with Hazel.

Family: Chris and Hazel celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in 2023. They have two daughters, resident in Nuneaton (physiotherapist) and Oxford (dentist). Both daughters have partners and dogs, so dog-sitting is a frequent occurrence at weekends.

Reason for joining MPC: Being relatively new to the village, Chris wants to both learn and contribute. His experience as a school governor for 10 years has given him (hopefully) a good understanding of how to get involved with people and get things done.

Interesting fact: Chris once made a charity walk from John o’Groats to Land’s End, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) along the way.
